The RED Directive defines greenhouse gas emission savings requirements for biogas plants according to factors such as the year of commissioning and the end use of the gas. Meeting the applicable sustainability criteria is essential if production is to contribute to national renewable energy targets and participate in the renewable fuel distribution obligation scheme.

• Compilation and documentation of the sustainability scheme, including feedstock lists and classification, risk assessment and system description

• Management of the approval process with the Finnish Energy Authority

An approved sustainability scheme enables qualifying biogas production to contribute to national renewable energy targets and may allow the operator to participate in the voluntary distribution obligation scheme.

Annual reporting and sustainability scheme maintenance

Envitecpolis also provides ongoing sustainability scheme maintenance and regulatory reporting services, including preparation of the annual sustainability criteria report and distribution obligation reporting to the Finnish Energy Authority.
